Fermin Arias, 77, of Laredo, passed away Nov. 16, 2018, in the presence of his family. He was born to Gregoria Martinez Linares and Jose Arias Urbano, Aug. 10, 1941, in Conception Del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico. He married Rosa Mendoza Arias in 1972 where they lived in Laredo for 42 years. Fermin was an avid painter and artist. He expressed his profound love for art in various murals throughout the city. Some of his most known pieces include: the mural depicting Selena Quintanilla next to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Laredo and the tribute memorial to fallen first responders behind the former municipal courthouse. His artwork serves as a testament to his character. Fermin is survived by his wife, Rosa Maria Arias, daughter, Georgina Arias, son in law, Geraldo Sandoval, and daughter in law, Hilda Arias. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ramon De Jesus Rodriguez, Jeannette Arias, Jose Angel Arias Jr, Claudia Arias, William Adam Garcia Turner, and seven great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Nieto Funeral Home. Cremation Services will be held at a later date.
