Obituary For Herminia B. Smith

Herminia Smith, age 93, of Pearland, TX, formerly a long-time resident of Laredo, TX passed away peacefully on July 19, 2016.

Herminia was born on September 20, 1922 in Tecuanapa, Guerrero and spent the majority of her childhood years there. She lived in different areas of Mexico until relocating to Highland Park, Illinois in 1969. In 1985 she moved to Laredo, Texas to be closer to her family and resided at Villa San Luis Resident Homes for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband William Smith.

Herminia was blessed with a beautiful daughter, son-in law, three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. She was very proud of them and she often referred to them as her “Tesoros.” She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and friend. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to San Luis Rey Church in Laredo for 25 years. She also belonged to The Guadalupanas y Sagrado Corazon group as well as The Mary Help of Christians group. During her time with San Luis Rey Church she hosted regular bible study groups at her home. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, baking and was an excellent cook. She often took delight in preparing meals for the church, her family and friends.

Herminia was an extraordinary woman who was strong, full of energy and was willing to help anyone. As most family and friends remember her, Herminia always welcomed everyone. She was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted daughter, Socorro (Victor) Morales, granddaughters Sara (Tommy) Moreno, Ana (Rene) Amaya, Minia (Stephen) Chadwick and great-grandchildren Cassandra Rodriguez, Victoria Tilley, Gabriela and Alejandro Amaya.

Visitation for Herminia will be Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Nieto Funeral Home & Crematory located at 802 Coke Street, Laredo, TX. A Rosary will be prayed from 7:00p.m. to 8:00p.m by herdear friend Deacon Jose Rodriguez. A Mass Officiated by Father Michael Gergen will be held at San Luis Rey Church located at 3502 Sanders Ave. Laredo, TX on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 8:30a.m. Interment will follow immediately after Mass to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery located at 3600 McPherson Ave, Laredo, TX. Sabemos que el perder a un ser querido en la muerte es muy doloroso pero si buscamos el consuelo que Dios nos da ayudará a sobrellevar la perdida. En Revelación o Apocalipsis 21:4 dice que "Dios limpiara toda lágrima de los ojos y la muerte no será mas". Eso nos deja saber que Jehova Dios eliminará la muerte para siempre. Además en Hechos 24:15 dice que "va ha haber una resurrección". Dios tiene el deseo de devolverles la vida a nuestros seres queridos que han muerto y lo cumplirá muy pronto.
