MANUEL (GALI) PEREZ MAY 12, 1919 – JULY 25, 2007 Manuel Perez passed quietly last night at a local hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Goliad, Texas, he was the eldest of the 6 children of the late Atanacio Perez and Amalia Trevino Perez. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfredo, Carlos and Sabas Perez, and by his sister Dora Perez Tijerina. Also preceding him in death were his sister-in-law, Claudia Rubio Perez and his son-in-law, Joaquin Arreguin. He is survived by his dear and devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Herminia Olivares Perez and by seven children, Sylvia(Joaquin+) Arreguin, Alma (Efrain J.) Laurel, Clarissa (Eusebio) Castilleja, Manuel “Blinker” (Lourdes) Perez, Eliseo (Minerva) Perez, Lucila (Rodolfo, Jr.) Barrera and Gerardo Perez. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Irene Perez, by his brother-in-law, Cayetano Tijerina, by his sister-in-law, Aurora Sarabia Perez and Angela Diaz Perez, by 18 grandchildren, and by many great-grandchildren, great-grand grandchildren, step-grand and great-grand children, nieces and nephews. Gali, as he was known to many friends, retired from the Texas-Mexican Railway Company in 1980, after 41 years of employment. He enjoyed the last 27 years of life by working in and around his home/ranch on the banks of the Rio Grande River. The Perez family extends a most sincere “thank you” to Dr. and Mrs. Arturo Garza-Gongora and his medical staff, to Drs. Oscar Perez, Luis Villarreal and Adolfo Aldape, to the entire staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit at Laredo Medical Center, to Professional Skilled Services, to Mrs. Maricela Cabrera and to Gali’s nephew, Eddie Avalos, for the very kind and dignified treatment they provided to Gali and his family. Funeral services will be under the direction of Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home. Viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 27th, between 4 pm and 9pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 28th, at 10 am in the Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
