Maria Barrera Guajardo, born in McAllen, Texas October 12, 1923 lost her gallant battle to oral and throat cancer on July 17, 2006 in her home in Laredo, Texas. She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church since 1968 when she moved here from Palatine, Illinois. For thirty years she was co-proprietor of Guajardo’s Drive Inn on Santa Maria Street, located across from Farias School. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Casimiro Guajardo on February 8, 2003. She is survived by her three children, Elisa Guajardo Barber (Walter Gary Barber), Joe Guajardo (Esperanza Guajardo de Flores) and Sister Guadalupe Guajardo (Holy Names Sister). Her Grandchildren include Roy, Ronald and Robert Rairie, Valerie Rooks (Randy Rooks), Jose Sabastian and Daniel Guajardo. Great-Grandchildren include Freddie Castro, Tessie Rairie and Jacob Guajardo. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006 from 4pm – 9pm at Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 from Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home to Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. Holy mass will be celebrated at 9am. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home, 802 Coke St.
