On December 17, 2014, Raul Martinez passed away at Laredo Medical Center after battling several medical complications. He was known as Tio Raul, Rule, and La Uva, to his family, friends, and former co-workers. He was born June 18, 1946, in Laredo, TX, to the late Quirino and Dolores Martinez. Raul Martinez worked as a ranch hand in several ranches within the vicinity of Laredo, TX, such as the Callaghan Ranch and working at the Dolph Briscoe Ranch to name the most notable. He followed his older brother Eusebio “Tio Chevo” Martinez in the late 60s to begin a career in the then booming oil field industry in and around the Crane and Odessa, Texas area. Raul Martinez was preceded in death by his parents: Quirino and Dolores Martinez, his eldest brother: Eusebio “Chevo” Martinez, paternal grandparents: Eusebio (Maria Del Refugio) Martinez and maternal grandparents: Francisco (Micaela) Maldonado. He is survived by his sister; Micaela M. (Blas) Flores, niece; Araceli F. (Jorge Luis) Nieto Jr., nephews; Blas (Cassie) Flores and Raul (Yvonne) Flores, nieces; Cindy Martinez, June Ella (David Galindo) Martinez, Talia (Louis Adame) Martinez as well as other family members and friends. Our beloved Tio Raul will be immensely missed by a myriad of nephews and grandnephews that will certainly carry on his memory and greatly miss his natural ability in entertaining you with his impromptu stories of his life while living in West Texas. You are and always will be a great uncle and special to our hearts Tio Raul. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Nieto Funeral Home & Crematory where a rosary will be recited at 7:30pm.
