Raul Oscar Peña Sr., 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 13, 2017. He is preceded in death by his mother; Modesta Jimenez, father; Pedro Peña, sister; Rosa Gutierrez and niece; Elva Gutierrez. Mr. Peña is a graduate of Martin High School Class of 1947. He is a WWII Veteran in the United States Marine Corp. His motto was "Semper Fi". He was always proud of serving his country. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years of marriage; Maria Melida Peña, children; Patricia (Elias, Jr.) Flores, Raul Oscar Peña Jr., Ricardo Rodolfo (Claudia Gonzalez) Peña, and Cynthia Peña. Grandchildren; Isabella Cantu, and Benjamin Cantu. He is also survived by his nieces, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Nieto Funeral Home & Crematory where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 from the funeral home to San Agustin Cathedral. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Interment will follow immediately in the Laredo City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Ricardo Rodolfo Peña, Elias Flores Jr., Roberto Peralta Jr., Rene Salinas, Pablo Gonzalez and Armando Salazar. Mr. Peña will be buried with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 59.
