Obituary For Santiago Cavazos
Santiago Cavazos, Jr., 62, devoted and loving son, brother, uncle and friend, was called by the Lord to eternal rest on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Known for his kind and generous heart, Mr. Cavazos died suddenly at his home from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. Mr. Cavazos was preceded in death by his father, Santiago C. Cavazos. He is survived by his mother, Josefina G. Cavazos; his brothers Sergio H. (Brenda) Cavazos of Arp, Texas and Roberto C. (Sylvia) Cavazos of Laredo; sisters Anna L. Cavazos (Vittorio) Ramirez and Rebecca Cavazos (Roberto) Sepulveda of Laredo; nieces and nephews: Jason Lee Cavazos, Jeffrey Scott Cavazos, Monika Elizabeth Cavazos, Roberto Cavazos, Vanessa Alejandra Ramirez, Roberto Santiago Sepulveda, Marcos Alejandro Sepulveda and Ricardo Daniel Sepulveda. Mr. Cavazos was a graduate of Martin High School (Class of 1965) and attended Laredo Junior College before joining the U.S. Air Force where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. As a young airman, he served in the Panama Canal and became skilled in electronics. He was among the first crew of the Webb County Fire Department which served the community of Del Mar before it was annexed by the City of Laredo. He later joined the ranks of the Laredo Fire Department and served for many years at Station 6 adjacent to the former airport. He recently retired from the Laredo Fire Department. During his duty watch he enjoyed reading and after retirement he continued to spend his time with books, television, his pet Golden Retriever “Fino,” and outdoor activities including fishing and hunting. He maintained life-long relationships with childhood friends, had a passion for classic vehicles and enjoyed hosting annual family gatherings at his home. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Ray Guevara at 7 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2008, at Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10am followed by interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Roberto C. Cavazos, Sergio Cavazos, Jose Martinez, Roberto J. Sepulveda, Vittorio Ramirez and Gilberto Garcia, Jr. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home, 802 Coke St.
