Virginia Barrera, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Mrs. Barrera was born in Nuevo Laredo and moved to Laredo when she married her husband, Jorge Barrera in 1947. They were married for 49 years when he passed away on August 14, 1997. Mrs. Barrera was also preceded in death by her son, Jorge Barrera, in 1951. Mrs. Barrera worked for Three Sisters for more than 20 years and then went to work at Jacqueline’s for 5 years until she retired in 1978. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Barrera suffered from Alzheimer’s the last 10 years. The family thanks her caregiver Martina Barrera for all the loving care. Mrs. Barrera is survived by: her two sons, Alfonso (Nora) Barrera and Jorge A. (Martina) Barrera, both of Laredo; her 2 daughters, Sylvia (Roberto) Cavazos and Ana Luisa (Gustavo) Guevara, Jr., both of Laredo; two sisters, Maria de Jesus de la Miyar of Laredo and Yolanda Ochoa of Nuevo Laredo; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, March 18, 2007 from 4-9pm at Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2007 from Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Holy Mass will be held at 8:30am. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nieto-Dickey Funeral Home, 802 Coke St.
